Firmware updates are essential for unlocking new features and optimizing flight performance. However, network instability or interrupted connections can sometimes cause updates to fail. This guide helps you interpret common error codes and use the “Forced Update” method to recover your device.
1. Common Error Codes & Meanings
When an update fails, the App usually displays a code. Here is what they mean:
| Error Code / Message | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Update Timeout / Network Error | The download was interrupted or the internet is too slow. | Switch to a stable Wi-Fi network. Avoid using mobile hotspots if possible. |
| Low Battery (Code 1001) | The aircraft or remote controller battery was below 20% during the attempt. | Charge both devices to at least 50% and retry. |
| Version Mismatch | The App version is older than the firmware being pushed. | Update your Mobile App to the latest version first. |
| Verification Failed | The downloaded package was corrupted. | Delete the cache in the App settings and re-download the firmware. |
2. The “Forced Update” (Recovery Mode) Procedure
If your drone is stuck in a boot loop (flashing red lights, won’t connect) or the standard update keeps failing, use this method:
-
Enter DFU/Recovery Mode:
-
Power off the drone.
-
Press and hold the Power Button for about 8-10 seconds until you hear a distinct beep pattern or see the status light flash in a specific sequence (refer to your specific model’s manual for the exact combo, usually involving a long press).
-
-
Connect via USB:
-
Instead of using the standard wireless link, connect the drone directly to your computer using a USB-C or Micro-USB cable.
-
Alternatively, connect the remote controller to the computer and launch the Desktop Suite (if available).
-
-
Initiate Refresh:
-
Open the official Desktop Software (Assistant Software).
-
The software should detect the device in “Recovery Mode.”
-
Click “Refresh” or “Force Install.” Do not disconnect the cable until the progress bar reaches 100%.
-
-
Restart:
-
Once finished, disconnect the cable and power cycle the drone.
-
3. Critical Safety Rules During Update
-
NEVER Power Off: Do not turn off the drone or the remote controller during the “Installing…” phase. Even if it looks stuck, wait at least 30 minutes before intervening.
-
USB Connection: If updating via the App fails twice, always switch to a USB cable connection between the remote and the phone/tablet. Wireless transmission is prone to packet loss.
-
Remove SD Card: Sometimes a slow or corrupted SD card interferes with the writing process. Remove it during the update.
4. Still Stuck?
If the forced update fails or the device remains unresponsive after 3 attempts:
-
Check if the device is Overheating. Let it cool down for 30 minutes.
-
Try a different computer or a different USB port (preferably USB 3.0).
