Pingding County, Shanxi Province: Fish and vegetable symbiosis, one water “double harvest”

Have you ever seen an agricultural operation mode where fish are raised without changing water, and vegetables are grown without fertilization? This year, the Xingsheng Vegetable Planting Professional Cooperative in Pingding County, Yangquan City, Shanxi Province introduced the fish and vegetable symbiosis project, which not only made it easy to raise fish and grow vegetables, but also achieved a “double harvest” of one water.

What is fish vegetable symbiosis? Zhao Xiaobo, the person in charge of Xingsheng Vegetable Planting Professional Cooperative in Pingding County, explained that fish vegetable symbiosis is a new type of composite farming system. It combines aquaculture and hydroponic cultivation, two completely different farming techniques, through clever ecological design to achieve synergistic symbiosis. Everything that happens in the fish and vegetable symbiotic greenhouse is like a natural ecological chain – fish swim happily in the fish pond, and the aquaculture tail water is filtered to remove the nutrients left by fish manure, making it perfect for growing vegetables; Vegetables grow vigorously, and the planting tail water flows back to the fish pond after disinfection and sterilization, which is not wasteful for fish farming.

The fish and vegetable symbiosis project of Xingsheng Vegetable Planting Professional Cooperative in Pingding County covers an area of nearly 10 acres and has three fish and vegetable symbiosis greenhouses. In the vegetable planting area, water lilies float on the water like sleeping beauties. The water in the pool is flowing and clear to the bottom. Fish farming areas, such as bass, tilapia, and koi, are swimming freely in the water and are expected to be available for sale in a while.

The fish and vegetable symbiosis project was only recently completed and is currently in the exploratory stage, “said Zhao Xiaobo, In terms of vegetable cultivation, the first batch of water lilies were tested. If the water lilies are growing well, the next step is to ‘move’ lettuce, sea cabbage, celery, etc. to hydroponic ponds. In terms of fish farming, there are currently 13 fish ponds in the greenhouse, raising more than 30000 fish of different types and high economic value. If the farming is successful, we plan to increase the variety of aquaculture to better meet market demand.

Although the project covers a large area and earns a lot of income, there are not many workers working in the fish and vegetable symbiotic greenhouse. Originally, the entire cycle of the project was automatically completed by machines, and workers only needed to manage fish and vegetables. This is a water circulation pump, that is an impurity filter, and that is an oxygenation system… In order to build a good fish vegetable symbiosis project, the Xingsheng Vegetable Planting Professional Cooperative in Pingding County has added many intelligent equipment, reducing labor intensity for workers and improving work efficiency.
