Digitally Empowering Agriculture: Guizhou Farmers Use Big Data for Agriculture

Ran Junmei is a villager of Miaozhai Village, Nanjiang Buyi and Miao Township, Kaiyang County, Guizhou Province, and a technician of the local Nanjiang Vegetable Breeding Center. Kaiyang County Nanjiang Vegetable Improved Variety Breeding Center has four intelligent greenhouses, which are built by Guizhou Modern Seed Industry Group Co., Ltd. in accordance with the model of “improved variety breeding research+intensive chemical plant seedling breeding”. The company has built a modern high-end breeding and seedling breeding base through digital control and precision planting, and the number of seedlings per crop can reach about 7 million.

Xie Yongqian, the person in charge of the Nanjiang Vegetable Breeding Center, introduced that the greenhouse of the base is equipped with temperature and humidity monitoring equipment and an intelligent environmental control system. The base seedling cultivation can achieve integrated fertilization, sprinkler irrigation, and light supplementation operations. When the weather is hot, an intelligent device can be used to start the temperature and humidity control system in one click mode. The wet curtain fan and window size can be used to control temperature and humidity, helping the healthy growth of seedlings.

Compared to traditional seedling cultivation methods, intelligent equipment can achieve modern factory seedling cultivation. Two to three workers can manage a seedling cultivation area of about 3000 to 4000 square meters, saving labor costs while also shortening the seedling cultivation cycle and improving seedling quality, “Xie Yongqian said.

In recent years, Guizhou Province, located in the southwestern hinterland of China, has relied on the advantages of big data development to accelerate the promotion and application of digitalization in new models of smart agriculture such as product traceability, intelligent greenhouses, and intelligent management of animal husbandry, in order to improve agricultural production efficiency. The integration of digital technology and agriculture has brought vitality to traditional industries.

Thanks to the support of local agricultural policies and the exploration of bank loan credit for live mortgage, Huangping County actively promotes intelligent electronic ear tags for beef cattle, helping to improve the management and protection level of beef cattle breeding and reduce the risk of beef cattle breeding.

Digital empowerment provides more “smart” opportunities for rural revitalization. The “14th Five Year Plan” for the Development of High Efficiency Agriculture with Modern Mountain Features in Guizhou Province proposes that Guizhou will actively develop digital agriculture and smart agriculture, and improve the intelligent management level of agricultural production and operation by strengthening the integrated application of intelligent perception, intelligent analysis, intelligent control technology and equipment in planting, breeding and other aspects.
