Feixi Mingchuan Township: Developing Modern Agriculture to Boost Rural Revitalization

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed “building a modern industrial system and comprehensively promoting rural revitalization”, further strengthening the development pace of modern urban agriculture in Mingchuan. Focusing on the realization of Chinese path to modernization, we have identified the entry point and breakthrough point for the development of urban agricultural modernization. Mingchuan Township, Feixi County, Anhui Province, has promoted the deep integration of rural primary, secondary and tertiary industries and accelerated the development of modern agriculture through industrial restructuring, infrastructure improvement, leading enterprises and other initiatives.

Adapt to local conditions and strengthen brand characteristic industries. The advantages of the sericulture industry are prominent, with a planting area of 16000 acres. Three consecutive sericulture tourism festivals have been held, and the Mingchuan Modern Agricultural Industrial Park has been selected as the fifth batch of provincial-level modern agricultural industrial parks, becoming the only park in the province with sericulture as the leading industry. There are abundant featured agricultural products. Kiwifruit and other high-quality fruits are planted over 3000 mu, and the area of featured cultivation and breeding of trichosanthes, sorghum, rice and shrimp is 20000 mu. We actively cooperated with the Agricultural Office and the market to register agricultural brands of exhibits, registered 11 agricultural products with trademarks, and applied for three “Wanmei Agricultural Products” to increase the market value of agricultural products.

Carefully organize and consolidate infrastructure support. The township has successfully applied for a thousand acre demonstration plot for high-quality green rice production, built a fully mechanized comprehensive agricultural service center, implemented small-scale farmland water conservancy projects, the “last mile” of farmland water conservancy projects, pond dredging and improvement projects, and a 100 billion kilogram grain production increase project. It has cleared 194 ponds and dams, added 35 drought resistant wells, and constructed 11.5 kilometers of ditches, greatly improving the level of agricultural mechanization utilization and agricultural technology promotion.

Guide and support, strengthen the drive of leading enterprises. The township has also established professional farmers’ cooperatives, which drive surrounding farmers and impoverished households through leading enterprises, forming agglomeration and scale effects, and driving farmers to become rich. As of now, a total of 75 farmer professional cooperatives, 221 family farms, and 3 municipal leading enterprises have been cultivated, including 1 national demonstration farmer cooperative (Hefei Fengbao Miscellaneous Grain Professional Cooperative), 2 municipal demonstration farmer cooperatives, 1 county-level demonstration farmer cooperative, 1 provincial-level demonstration family farm (Jinlingli Family Farm), 4 municipal demonstration family farms, and 2 county-level demonstration family farms. We supported 3 enterprises applying for comprehensive industrialized utilization of straw, completed the construction of 3 digital agriculture factories and 2 refrigeration and fresh-keeping facilities in agricultural production areas.
