Sanya holds a high-quality rice new variety observation meeting

A gentle breeze blew, and the rice leaves swayed and rustled. At the demonstration and promotion site of new rice varieties in Miaolintianyang, Tianya District, Sanya City, 15 new rice varieties have plump panicles and grains, and their leaves are straight. On July 5, the Sanya Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Sanya Agricultural Technology Center held a 2023 on-site observation meeting on the demonstration and promotion of new varieties of high-quality rice. Agricultural technology experts introduced the demonstration of new varieties of rice, and guided grain growers and farmers to watch the selection of rice seeds and select and use them scientifically.

Observing the scene, personnel who came to watch rice selection went deep into the field to check the growth of 15 new high-quality rice varieties. Later, we will see the plump panicles and grains of this variety, compare which varieties are higher, learn which varieties are better resistant to pests and diseases, and compare which varieties are better resistant to lodging… “These new varieties have excellent quality and resistance, and are among the best varieties in rice breeding at present.” The relevant person in charge of Sanya Agricultural Technology Center said that the on-site observation meeting not only provides a display platform for scientific research and breeding units and seed enterprises, It also provides an intuitive window for rice growers and others to choose excellent varieties that can be seen, learned, and communicated.

Seed is the “chip” of agriculture. In order to promote the transformation of variety achievements, promote excellent varieties, ensure the increase of production and income, and ensure food security supply, Sanya Agricultural and Rural Bureau and Sanya Agricultural Technology Center held demonstration and promotion of new varieties of high-quality rice, and planted 15 new varieties of high-quality rice in Miaolintianyang.

At the observation site, agricultural technology experts comprehensively evaluated the maturity, grain type, plant type, disease resistance, and high yield of different rice varieties. “Good quality and high yield are the characteristics of this demonstration and promotion of new rice varieties.” The relevant person in charge of Sanya Agricultural Technology Center said that among the 15 new varieties, in addition to conventional indica rice and japonica rice, there are special types of rice varieties such as red rice. The average yield per mu for demonstration and promotion is over 500 kilograms, and there are many varieties suitable for planting in southern cities and counties such as Sanya, Ledong, Baoting, and Lingshui in Hainan.

“Through in-depth face-to-face exchanges between experts and growers, growers can more intuitively understand the characteristics and planting points of new rice varieties, guide farmers to use seeds scientifically, and give full play to the key role of improved rice varieties in agricultural production and efficiency.” The relevant person in charge of Sanya Agricultural Technology Center introduced that, at the same time, it also speeds up the promotion of new high-quality rice varieties and effectively promotes the transformation of scientific research achievements.
