Hengyang County: UAV field “flying defense” helps corn harvest

At present, it is an important time for field management of maize planting, and also a critical period for Pest control. In Changtang Village, Taiyuan Town, Hengyang County, large corn growers invited the UAV plant protection service team to carry out “flight prevention” operations to ensure a high yield of corn.

On July 4, in Changtang Village, Taiyuan Town, Hengyang County, looking around, the continuous corn plants were straight, neat, lush, and growing well. Under the operation of technicians, a UAV flew back and forth at low altitude, spraying fog like liquid medicine evenly, and completed the operation of several acres of corn fields in just a few minutes.

Wen Qinglan, a major corn grower, has planted over 200 acres of sweet corn using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to spray it all within 3 and a half hours. This not only saves time and effort, but also reduces agricultural investment costs. Moreover, the spraying is even and the atomization effect is good, greatly improving the control effect.

Chen Heng, a pilot of the drone plant protection service team, introduced that using drones for operation can take about 10 minutes per flight, and can complete almost 20 acres at once. Compared to traditional manual spraying, it can greatly save operation time and timely protect crops from pests and diseases.

The current weather conditions are very favorable for corn growth, and Wen Qinglan is making every effort to manage the mid to late stages of corn production in the first half of the year. Wen Qinglan said that a portion of the corn grown domestically is sold within the province, while a portion flows to the Guangdong and Jiangnan markets. In addition to domestic sales orders, there are also deep processing foreign trade orders, and the product can be said to be in short supply.

In recent years, Hengyang County has continuously improved the Agrarian society service system, vigorously supported the cultivation service organizations, and helped growers solve production problems such as low technology and labor shortage by carrying out alternative farming, alternative planting, alternative collection, and alternative flight prevention agricultural machinery services, thus reducing planting costs and increasing production and income.
