Shaanxi: solidly promoting the construction of characteristic modern agriculture

At the same time of fighting against the COVID-19, Shaanxi plans to allocate resources, take multiple measures to improve the supply capacity, ensure the stability of the grain and oil market, ensure the supply of pork, increase the supply of vegetables, and spare no effort to increase the production and supply of agricultural products.

The vigorous development of characteristic modern agriculture has provided a solid material foundation for Shaanxi to overcome the epidemic. The children of Sanqin have confidence in winning the battle against epidemic prevention and control, and minimizing the impact of the epidemic.

Shaanxi has become the largest province in fruit production in China, with the production and sales of infant formula sheep milk powder ranking first in the country, and the development scale of facility agriculture ranking first in the northwest region.

On the basis of maintaining stable grain production, in 2018, the Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Government, based on Shaanxi’s resource endowment and industrial foundation, launched the “3+X” project for characteristic modern agriculture, striving to build the fruit industry, animal husbandry, and facility agriculture into three “hundred billion level industries”, optimize and strengthen regional characteristic industries, and fully promote the upgrading of rural industries.

The fruit industry further improves quality and efficiency. Shaanxi has established the world’s largest concentrated and contiguous apple planting area, becoming the largest province in fruit production in China. The fruit industry, mainly focused on the apple industry, has embedded 2 million fruit farmers and nearly 10 million people in the industrial chain.

Further transformation and upgrading of animal husbandry. Shaanxi has built the country’s largest Shaneng milk goat breeding base, the largest sheep milk processing industry base, and the largest sheep milk product supply base. Sheep milk products account for 85% of the domestic market share, with a market share of over 95% for infant formula sheep milk powder, and the production and sales volume ranking first in the country.

Facility agriculture has further expanded and increased production. As of the end of 2019, the area, yield, and output value of protected vegetables in Shaanxi were 3.4 million mu, 10.4 million tons, and 92 billion yuan, respectively, an increase of 19.2%, 22.4%, and 268% compared to 2014, and the development scale remained the first in the northwest region.
