Technology empowers high-quality development of agriculture

Recently, I walked into Yang Houwei’s vegetable greenhouse in Yangjiazhuang Village, Dongmeng Town, Fei County, Linyi City, Shandong Province. The temperature inside the greenhouse was suitable, and all kinds of vegetables were vibrant and growing happily. As a well-known vegetable greenhouse grower in the village, Yang Houwei has expressed a lot of emotions about the changes in vegetable greenhouses in recent years. “In the past two years, the shed has begun to install intelligent equipment, which makes it easier to work than before.” While saying that, Yang Houwei pressed the spray switch on the top of the vegetables to demonstrate the process of new pipe spray. The water vapor was evenly scattered in the form of a fine mist, forming droplets rolling on the vegetable leaves, adding some vitality to the shed. “It used to take 1-2 hours for manual spray in a greenhouse, but now you can use this intelligent spray device to spray a greenhouse in 8 minutes.”

The superiority of technological planting is not only reflected in planting efficiency, but also in the greening of planting products. In the vegetable greenhouse, there are also long poles standing, with small boxes of different colors of light on the poles. Yang Houwei introduced that this is the “destination” of pests – pheromone light traps, blue purple light sources specifically trap insects such as thrips and diamondback moths, and yellow light sources specifically trap insects such as fleas and whiteflies. At the same time, the greenhouse is also equipped with 16 advanced technologies and intelligent equipment such as electrolytic water, integrated water and fertilizer, and ground inserted moisture monitoring. Ecological agriculture technology is rapidly developing green ecological agriculture. The demand for green vegetables in the market is increasing, and technological planting has significantly improved our efficiency, “said Yang Houwei.

Empowering the high-quality development of county-level agriculture with technology, Fei County aims to develop rural industries, based on the county’s agricultural endowment and the technological advantages of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, adheres to technology leadership, highlights model innovation, and focuses on building a technology led agricultural development system that is supported by all platforms, promoted in all regions, covered in all industries, and empowered in all aspects.

We focus on opening up channels for high-quality scientific and technological resources to enter villages and households, “said Li Quanfa, director of the Fei County Agricultural Technology Promotion Center. The county has established a comprehensive scientific and technological talent support system by jointly building four types of scientific and technological innovation platforms, including the Fei County Branch of the Rural Talent College of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Agricultural Technology Training Base, the Agricultural Science Expert Studio, and the Rural Revitalization Science and Technology Exhibition Room. We have accurately configured our scientific and technological talent pool, with 346 experts from the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, 40 national, provincial, and institute chief experts, and 90 newly employed doctors coming to Fei County for non full-time employment. “Li Quanfa said that Fei County actively promotes collaborative cooperation with provincial and municipal agricultural academies and local higher education institutions, and the” mass innovation space “in the agricultural field has already reached a considerable scale.

Not long ago, the “Green and Efficient Production Model Construction and Demonstration Promotion of Corn” project in Fei County was tested and accepted. The planting demonstration field is located in Shigou Village, Dongmeng Town. After being tested and accepted by production experts, samples were selected, the number of plants per mu was calculated, and the number of grains per ear was calculated. The 510 mu yield of Ludan was 964.09 kilograms, setting a new record for high summer corn yield in mountainous areas of Shandong Province. We explore the ‘three fields in one’ model of scientific research and innovation experimental fields, technology promotion demonstration fields, and industrial development model fields, achieving the integration of scientific research, promotion, and industrial development, providing strong support for promoting high-quality agricultural development and ensuring food production safety, “said Li Quanfa.
